When you get to Lhasa, the spiritual centre of Tibet, the Alpine Club of Himalaya team will be waiting to greet you with open arms. After a beautiful ride to your hotel, you’ll have the afternoon to get used to the high elevation of 3,600 meters. This slow start is important for your body to get used to the higher elevation and lowers the risk of getting altitude sickness. Gather in the evening for a delicious welcome dinner with traditional Tibetan dishes. This is a great chance to get to know your fellow travellers and enjoy the tastes of the area. As soon as you finish your hearty breakfast, you can spend the whole day exploring Lhasa. Start your day at the beautiful Potala Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and where the Dalai Lama lived in the winter. As you walk through its grand halls and chapels, you can take in the building’s long history and stunning architecture. Next, go to Jokhang Temple, which is the spiritual centre of Tibetan Buddhism. There, you can see how deeply dedicated people from all over the world are. Spend the afternoon walking through the busy Barkhor Bazaar, which is full of stalls selling handmade goods, traditional clothing, and tasty treats from the area. You will be hiking to Dolmala Pass today. At 5,636m, it is the highest point in the Kora. As you go up, stop at a teahouse for a break. There you can meet other pilgrims and enjoy local snacks and drinks. After going down, take a moment to enjoy the beautiful views of Gauri Kund Lake, which is a holy place with spiritual significance. The walk today is hard on the body and the spirit, and it gives you a great sense of accomplishment. Spend the night in Dzulpuk at a guesthouse.

Finish the last part of your walk back to Darchen. From there, you’ll take a bus back to town. As you walk, stop and look at the piles of Mani stones that line the Kora. Each one has prayers and blessings written on it in Tibetan script.
