Best Time to Visit:

Travel is by shared tourist bus from Kathmandu, with private transport options available for additional cost.

Itinerary
Start your trip in Kathmandu with a beautiful drive early in the morning to the Kerung Border, which is the border between Nepal and Tibet. The 145-kilometer trip takes you through the beautiful countryside of Nepal, where you can see lush valleys, terraced fields, and cute villages. When you get to the border, you will go through the necessary steps at Nepali immigration before crossing the bridge into Tibet. After going through Chinese immigration, keep driving to Keung Town. The Kerung Hotel is where you’ll spend the night. The first day of your trip sets the tone for an exciting one as you move from Nepal’s lively culture to Tibet’s unique landscape and traditions.

Get ready for a beautiful drive from Kerung to Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city, after breakfast. You’ll be going over the Gyatchu La pass, which is an impressive 5,220 meters high and has stunning views of the Himalayan peaks all around. You will go through the small town of Lhatse on your way, where you can see how Tibetan culture and architecture are different from other cultures. When you get to Shigatse, check into the Yak Hotel and use the evening to explore this historic city. The Tashilhunpo Monastery is where the Panchen Lama lives. Today is full of beautiful views and cultural experiences that will help you get ready for your trip through Tibet.

Visit the impressive Tashilhunpo Monastery first thing in the morning. It’s known for its beautiful statues and spiritual meaning. After seeing the sights in the morning, keep going towards Lhasa by going through Gyantse. You can visit the famous Kumbum Stupa and the well-kept Gyantse Fortress here. The path then takes you to the beautiful Yamdrok Tso Lake, which is known for its turquoise water and snow-capped mountains all around it. You will also go along the Brahmaputra River (Yarlung Tsangpo), which is very important to the Tibetan people. Arrive in Lhasa after a day of seeing beautiful scenery and learning about other cultures. Check into your hotel for the night.

Spend the next two days getting to know Lhasa’s rich spiritual and cultural life. Start by going to the holy Jokhang Temple, which is the spiritual centre of Tibetan Buddhism. There, you can see how local pilgrims do their daily rituals. Check out the busy Barkhor Bazaar, where you can buy traditional crafts and enjoy the lively atmosphere. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Potala Palace is a must-see for its beautiful Tibetan architecture and stunning views of the city. You should also go to the Drepung and Sera Monasteries to learn about monastic life and see how monks argue in the traditional way. These two days in Lhasa give you a full picture of the city’s religious, cultural, and historical importance.

Today, you will leave Lhasa for a long drive to Shegar. As you travel across the Tibetan plateau, you can take in the stunning views of the rough terrain and lofty mountains. This trip gives you a chance to see the beautiful landscapes that make Tibet unique, with its wide plains and faraway peaks. After a long day of travelling, check into a guesthouse in Shegar and take it easy. This stop gets you ready for the exciting trip to Everest Base Camp that’s coming up.

Drive to Everest Base Camp first thing in the morning. This will be one of the best parts of your trip. As you get closer to the world’s highest peak, the journey offers stunning views. When you get to EBC, take some time to enjoy the breathtaking views and see the Rongbuk Monastery, which is the world’s tallest monastery. After seeing this famous site, start your trip back to Kerung, where you will stay the night at a hotel. Today is an amazing adventure, full of amazing things to do and beautiful views.

On your last day, take your time with breakfast before starting the long trip back to Kathmandu. The drive back gives you a chance to think about your amazing trip through Tibet. Take one last look at the beautiful scenery as you cross the border back into Nepal. Once you get to Kathmandu, you can either do more exploring of this lively city or just take it easy after an amazing trip. Today is the last day of your Tibetan adventure. You will have wonderful memories and experiences that you will cherish forever.
